Every Monday lighthearted laughter flows from a table in the Barrelroom at Ballandean Estate… that’s the sound of visitors dining with one of the Puglisi family members – the First Family of the Queensland wine industry.
This weekly occurance comes with an open invitation to all and it’s certainly a lunch experience that won’t be soon forgotten. To be seated with the Puglisi’s is to be amongst family – their Italian heritage shining through in their signature welcoming style.
Wine experiences don’t come more authentic than this, chatting, asking questions, feeling like old friends, all over a glass of world-class wine.
About the Italian Style Lunch
Dining in the Barrelroom Restaurant is an experience in itself. ‘At Our Table’ lunches include an Italian inspired 2-course meal, prepared by chefs Matt and Bobbi Wells and matched perfectly to Ballandean Estate’s wines (wines are included with an option for full or half pour wines).
Always on the menu are Strange Bird™ varietals – they are the lesser known, emerging grape varieties grown on on the Granite Belt and you’ll soon learn that these exciting alternative tastes are ideal food wines.
More than a Lunch – an Unforgettable Experience
‘At Our Table’ are more than a lunch, they are mini-events, which take guests behind the scenes at Queensland’s oldest winery. Hear the stories, enjoy the heritage and meet the personalities that make up Ballandean Estate.
- Start with a vineyard tour with one of the family (please wear closed-in shoes.)
- Wander through the 50-year-old Shiraz vines on the Opera Block
- Meet the winemaker Dylan Rhymer
- Tour through the large barrel cellar

Meet the Puglisi’s
This whole family live and breathe wine! Since 1932 the Puglisi’s have been producing wine from their vineyards in Ballandean.
During your ‘At Our Table’ experience you’ll be greeted by some of the fourth generation of family members to be working on the estate. Joining you at lunch will be one (or depending on the day, perhaps even up to three) of the family.
Angelo Puglisi is a Queensland treasure and fondly known as the Father of the Queensland Wine Industry. He founded Queensland’s wine industry, pioneering the way with a work ethic learnt as the son of a hardworking and passionate Italian family.
He has spent his entire life on Ballandean Estate, and over the past 80 years his family business has been at the forefront of developing and promoting the Queensland Wine Industry.
Meet Robyn and Leeanne
Arguably the friendliest faces on the Granite Belt, a lunch with daughters, Robyn or Leeanne promises to be a smile and a laugh a minute. Both are full time at the winery and both experts in the wine industry in their own right.
Robyn has served Ballandean Estate for more than two decade and Leeanne is an outstanding advocate for Queensland’s burgeoning wine industry and one of Australia’s most influential women in wine.

Cost: $100 per person $90 for half pour of wine
