Twinstar Guesthouse & Observatory, located 20 km south of Stanthorpe on New England Highway at Ballandean, is unique motel-style accommodation with a 4.5m astronomical observatory surrounded by a beautiful garden. A free guided tour of the night sky is offered from the observatory with a 46cm reflecting telescope every night from 20:30 (weather permitting).
The Guesthouse is ideally located for visits to national parks (Girraween, Bald Rock and Sundown NPs), bird-watching and wildflower viewing. Many wineries are found within short distances. All 3 guest rooms have queen bed(s), air-con, own bathroom, fridge, microwave, toaster, tea/coffee making facilities, wardrobe and own entrance off the verandah.
Room tariffs are reasonable: $95 single, $115 double, $130 twin, $150 triple including a night sky tour. Optional meals are available: $7 continental breakfast and $18 dinner (booking required). Breakfast is placed in a room on the day before and dinner is delivered to room at 19:00.
