Set high on the Great Dividing Range, Queensland’s Granite Belt Wine Country’s cool climate, rich granite soils and four distinct seasons have shaped a thriving apple-growing region for more than a century. Early orchardists recognised the region’s altitude and winter chill as ideal for growing crisp, flavour-filled fruit – a tradition that today produces almost all of Queensland’s apples.
From pioneering orchards planted in the late 1800s to generations of family growers nurturing varieties including Granny Smith, Pink Lady and Fuji, apples have become part of the Granite Belt Wine Country’s identity and culture.
Inspired by this rich heritage, the Apple Pie Flavour Trail invites you on a self-guided journey through orchards, cafés, and cideries – celebrating the region’s love affair with apples, harvest traditions and the simple joy of a warm pie shared in the cool mountain air. Come join us on this self-guided exploration
Apple Pies
Sutton’s Juice Factory, Cider & Shed Café

Start with a true Granite Belt classic, lovingly made by Mrs Sutton herself.
The Sutton’s apple pie is famously labour-intensive and completely handmade onsite. Apples are sourced from the family orchard and neighbouring farms within 10 kilometres, blending varieties to achieve that perfect sweet-tart balance. The pastry is crafted using quality Australian ingredients, creating a golden, flaky crust that has become something of a regional icon.
Pair a generous slice with a glass of fresh apple cider or juice pressed just metres away, then settle under the garden trees, fork in hand.
Vincenzo’s at the Big Apple
No Apple Pie Trail would be complete without a stop at the Granite Belt’s most recognisable landmark.
At Vincenzo’s Cafe, Deli and Wine Bar, apples are a way of life. Inside the bustling café and deli, you’ll find classic apple pie served just as it should be – generous and comforting. It’s the perfect mid-trail pause browsing the region’s largest range of local produce, wines and gourmet treats.
Before you leave, stock up on a few favourites, because once you’ve started the Apple Pie Trail, you’ll want to take a taste of it home.

Jamworks Gourmet Foods

Jamworks puts its own creative spin on tradition.
Here, apples are cooked with their signature Apple Strudel Jam and nestled into a house-made individual pastry base, topped with buttery crumble and baked to order. Served warm with vanilla ice-cream, it’s a refined take on a comforting classic – rich, fragrant and unmistakably Granite Belt.
If it becomes your favourite slice of the trail, be sure to pick up a jar of Apple Strudel Jam from the shop so you can recreate the magic at home.

Pick Your Own Apples
The secret to Granite Belt Wine Country’s apple pies? It starts in the orchard.
Producing 100% of Queensland’s apples, the Granite Belt’s cool climate, rich soils and warm days create fruit that’s crisp, flavourful and perfect for baking. Here, “fresh is best” isn’t just a saying, it’s a way of life. During harvest season (Autumn), visitors can step beyond the café table and into the orchard itself, picking apples straight from the tree.
Nicoletti Orchards

This third-generation apple orchard has been producing top-quality fruit since 1950.
Today, Daniel and his wife Toni continue the tradition and invite visitors to wander through their picturesque orchard and hand-pick their own apples straight from the trees.
After picking, relax in the picnic area, grab a coffee or a slice of apple pie from the onsite van and soak up the orchard views.

Eastern Colour
The Baronio family has been growing produce in the Stanthorpe district since the 1930s, and at their Applethorpe farm since the mid-1970s. Today, Eastern Colour focuses on strawberries and apples – two fruits that thrive in the Granite Belt’s cool climate.
During special harvest events, visitors are invited to pick their own apples and strawberries straight from the source. It’s a great way to connect with where the pie begins: in the orchard itself.
