Keep to your budget while not skimping on fun on your trip to Stanthorpe by adding some of these free things to do on your itinerary.
- Get outdoors and walk amongst the giant boulders at Girraween National Park, Donnelly’s Castle or Sentimental Rocks.
- Walk amongst the thousands of real Christmas trees, meet Santa’s animals and browse Christmas wonderland that is Granite Belt Christmas Farm, it’s free entry.
- Visit Stanthorpe’s Mt Marlay Lookout and look through the free binoculars.
- Drive through the apple orchards along Amiens Road before and after Stanthorpe Cheese (see apples Jan-April and beautiful blossoms end of Sept, first week of Oct).
- Follow the trail of street art including lots of murals in Stanthorpe CBD.
- Get out on your mountain bike on the Mt Marlay Mountain Bike Trails.
- Stop in at Kents Saddlery to see the giant windmill, amazing big Outback style murals, the kids can do a free leather stamping activity and it’s just a gold coin donation to feed their animals. People travel from near and far to buy the leather goods crafted onsite at their workshop – see them beautifully displayed in the store.
- On weekends the Artworks Precinct in Stanthorpe is delightful with its community garden to amble through, a little art gallery and cafe, all onsite at the historic railway station, plus on Saturday morning there’s a farmers market.
- Visit the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery.
- See the amazing Ballandean Pyramid.
- Take the family fishing along the lovely riverbank of Quart Pot Creek in Stanthorpe – it’s re-stocked with fingerlings.
- Amiens Legacy Centre offers free self-guided tours Saturday 10am-1pm ($5 guided tours are also available). See what to experience there.
- Drop in to Washpool Skin Wellness and see soap making in action through the viewing window in store (warning their products are so beautiful we guarantee you’ll be tempted to buy a few).
- Do the walk from Stanthorpe’s Big Thermometer to the historic Red Bridge walking alongside picturesque Quart Pot Creek.
- There’s no entry fee at Ashbern strawberry farm – only pay for the fruit you pick (no booking required)! Same deal at Eastern Colour where they regularly (often monthly) open their farm for weekend visits to pick strawberries and apples (bookings required).
- Picnics, BYO water sports or throw in your fishing line at Storm King Dam.
- Pose for a photo with Stanthorpe’s famous Big Apple, onsite at Vincenzo’s at the Big Apple.
